Location

We are located in the Highland Town of Fort William which lies at the base of Ben Nevis, Britain's highest mountain (4406 ft). Beautiful Glen Nevis runs between the mountains to the most spectacular scenery, walks and waterfalls. Braveheart and Rob Roy were also filmed here.

Glencoe, only a short drive away, offers more spectacular mountain scenery and excellent rock climbing and hill walking. There is an interesting visitors' centre here with a wealth of information on the "Glencoe Massacre".

Fort William itself has a variety of restaurants and Public Houses to suite all tastes and budgets. Also, a pool and leisure centre for those wishing to relax or excercise. We also host the World Championships for Downhill, Cross Country & 4 x 4 mountain bikes every year at Aonach Mor where a gondola runs up to a Restaurant, with great views of Ben Nevis and surrounding area. Bike hire for cycling in the area can be done locally.

The house has a large Guest Lounge with its 18ft window looking onto Loch Linnhe, a sea loch at the end of the Caledonian Canal and Neptunes Staircase. This is a series of 8 locks raising boats over 20 metres over a distance of 500 metres to the canal, which joins Loch Lochy, Loch Oich & Loch Ness (the monster loch). All three are fresh water lochs until you reach Inverness (66 miles away) and Scotland's East Coast (Moray Firth).

There are also various boat trips from Fort William: from leisurely loch trips to Seal Island to fast RIB trips as far as the Sound of Mull, Oban and much more. For those wishing to experience more sea life there is the Underwater centre with its big glass tanks, submarine "Morzh" and a try-a-dives.

For the train enthusiasts there is the Jacobite Steam Train from Fort William to Mallaig passing Glenfinnan where Bonnie Prince Charlie raised the Jacobite standard in 1745. More spectacular scenery and scenes featured in "Harry Potter" will be recognisable.

Stronchreggan View Guest House is the ideal base for experiencing any of this as well as day trips to Loch Ness, Isle of Skye, Inverness, Urquart Castle, Inveraray (Castle), Isle of Mull and much more.
